Coulton Cup 23 Jan 2010
Warton Typhoons v's Layton Juniors 1-5 5-1
What a cliff hanger! Everyone deserves a pat on the back for what was an excellent match performance. The game was there to be won in the final 5 minutes of the game, but alas that last goal for the win, eluded us. It was an exciting game to watch. However, we would have not got the result - a match replay - if there had not been some outstanding individual performances. Extremely well done to Jack Worswick in nets who pulled off some some fantastic saves to keep us in the Cup match and he won a the Man of the Match Trophy. At this point recognition should go to Ken for his goalkeeping coaching who is working wonders. William Holmes took the other Man of the Match trophy for scoring the five goals but also getting in to a position to receive the pass in space, so that he had time to line up to get a shot off at goal.
Hawks met tough opposition in the first match despite Typhoons fielding a strong team. But the game is about a team effort and Harriers were set against a weaker second Layton Juniors team, and were to turn the tables around levelling up the score line with 5 goals from William Holmes. Many of the crosses were supplied by Thomas Mc Dougall who was inspirational in mid-field. His desire to win the ball and his ball control was outstanding.
Defenders Alex Peters and Jake Russell both with their pace in defence and the timeliness of their clean tackles were excellent whilst Robert King and Ewan Satterthwaite also had excellent games and looked threatening up front and are worthy of a mention. It is every encouraging to see a greater degree of passing and movement off the ball. A fantastic team effort! KEEP IT UP!
