BJFF Predators 0 - Warton Typhoons U11s 10
No not a mistake although the match against BJFF predators was actually split into 4 quarters of 20 mins each which is longer than the matches will be next season. On a very hot June Saturday morning Warton Typhoons U11s met BJFF predators at BJFFs home ground at the gala fields in Bispham. Both sides started brightly and the match was end to end for the first 5 mins with James running through from midfield several times before last ditch tackles by predators. 6 mins in though predators won a penalty after a foul on their striker by Cal. So unused to the bigger were the coaches that we debated on the sidelines whether the foul was in the box, sadly for us it was. Fortunately though predators missed the pen unluckily screwing the ball wide. Oli would have had no chance had the shot been a shade to the left. The pen seemed to spur Typhoons on and within a minute we had broken down the right side with Joshua and James exchanging passes before James crossed for Henry to prod home for us to take the lead. Just before the first break we scored again and went in at “quarter time” 2-0 up. Then we sent on our dodgy ref(me) and in the second quarter we scored another 2 goals to lead. Sorry I can’t remember the 3rd or the 4th but I do know Jack scored the 4th! Shortly before half time Cal redeemed himself by making a brilliantly timed tackle on their star striker and winning the ball inside the penalty area before clearing the danger. In the last 2 quarters typhoons really took control with Spaffy completing a hat trick and James running through time after time scoring a hat trick for himself as well. Jack added to his first goal and after a foul on Spaffy Cal finally got a free kick on target and it went like a missile into the top of the net. We’ll blame the ball for all the times it flew over the bar last season cal!!! Typhoons really looked an accomplished side throughout the whole game with stout intelligent defending from Cam supported ably by Edward and Dan. Edward’s confidence in heading and clearing his lines was brilliant to see as was Dans talking with the other members of the team. Josh was really unlucky not to score when the ball broke from a corner and he shot from outside the box just missing the far post. Spaffy still looked like the same determined player he was when he first came down(age 6), Henry just looks so at home on a football field and we can see how strong a player he is. James runs from midfield are a joy to watch and in my mind count as the best football I saw at the weekend (I hate the World cup). Its going to be great watching this from the sidelines next season. These 3 were all just fantastic showing up with 7 of the goals and were a threat throughout. When Alexander came on from the subs bench he looked eager to impress running tirelessly all over the pitch winning the ball and making the easy pass (as we’d trained on the night before). Oli G didn’t have much to do but as with all good keepers saved brilliantly when called upon when it looked like predators would score in the first quarter. TJ also came off the bench to impress with tigerish tackling and as always he was willing to give the ball up to a team-mate in a better position. Finally a big mention for Oli Dodd in particular he looks solid in midfield and for long times controlled the game in fact he was really unlucky not to win man of the match but that award goes to Jack who not only scored 2 goals but passed the ball extremely well in and around the box and he looked dangerous all day combining his good running into space with harassing the life out of the predators back 4! Obviously I can’t remember all the game that well, usually I make notes (for the league…I’m not that sad) but as I reffed half the game I can’t remember who scored when with passes from whom. Suffice to say Typhoons beat a side just making its first foray into 11 a side footy but we were in control from early on and could have scored more and the fact is you have to play the side in front of you a fact which England could have thought about when playing to Algeria…..Jez for England! (Sure he’ll be cheaper than Fabio)
